5 Most Overrated Fragrances You Might Think Twice About Buying

Naming the most overrated fragrances is a bit difficult. Perfumes are subjective and almost any one of them can be overrated to someone.

I have my list of overrated perfumes to stay away from. Their hype just didn’t cut it for me. I’m sure these appeal to many other people, but I’m also certain others will agree with me as well.

To make this post balanced, I also asked around to see what my friends think is an overrated perfume and there are a few of them which we agree on.

Overrated fragrances you can skip in your collection

Before we start the list of overrated or overhyped perfumes, you need to know Dior Sauvage and Pacco Rabanne 1 Million are not on it. While I’m not the biggest fan of Sauvage, it almost attracts compliments every time I wear it. 1 Million is also overly sweet, but someone even touched my arm to stop and ask what I was wearing once on the street when I sprayed it on my skin.

  1. Yves Saint Laurent Kouros

I love French perfumes and they naturally appeal to my nose. But Kouros seems to be another story. Carnation, aldehydes, and civet aren’t truly working here. This shouldn’t be a real problem but it seems every fragrance shop seems to rate it highly, which I don’t see the point of. Animalic and virile? Yes, but at what cost? 

  1. Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford

This gets very mixed reactions. I even got a few people offended by wearing it. I understand it’s not for everybody but should it at least be for some? This is certainly an overrated fragrance and for the price, you can look elsewhere, maybe to smaller brands where you can find real gems.

  1. Davidoff Cool Water

What’s happening with this fragrance and why is everybody recommending it? Today, it seems it shouldn’t be on the shelves anymore, even though there are a few who still wear it (40+?). It’s now time for a new Cool Water.

  1. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

It’s almost a fragrance recommended by all reviewers, but I can’t understand the logic behind its reviews. It’s one of the few fragrances that gave me a headache. It smells medicinal and very creepy. Nobody in my family likes it either.

  1. Dolce & Gabbana The One (EDP)

I wonder what happened to The One. Was it ever good? On my skin, it barely lasts 1 hour and its performance is underwhelming. I understand that I get compliments after applying it by I think it only lasts about 30 minutes with minimum projection.

While it’s now affordable, especially in the 50ml bottle, The One should be The Other One since there’s nothing there anymore in terms of performance.
